Elijah and the Seven-Thousand Prophets of God

The prophetic has been taken captive by strange voices, strange fire and strange operations. There are no watchman standing on the walls of our nation warning us of impending danger. Could it be that God through this economic crisis is shaking things that aren’t of Him, including false prophetic ministry?

…there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word. (1 Kings 17:1)

Why did the Lord God command Elijah to prophesy this word? Was it His judgment on the people because of their sins? No, it wasn’t the people whom the Lord was holding accountable. The Father is compassionate towards His children, His Love endures forever. This word was released because of the prophets of Jezebel and the prophets of Baal. You know the story.

In the Word of God, not all prophets were prophets of God. Balaam was a prophet who wanted to curse the people of God but he couldn’t. He instead seduced them to commit adultery and fornication. Balaam did all this because of the lust of money. Balaam’s prophets lust after money and will prophesy your money out of your pockets with all sorts of tactics and gimmicks. You may have seen them on Christian Television. They are masters of manipulation using enticing words of mans wisdom to merchandise God’s people. Baal on the other hand is the god of divination and this foreign god has its own prophets. They prophesy through familiar spirits who carry out the prophetic words spoken by its mouthpieces. Baal’s prophets prophesy according to the idolatry in people’s hearts. This is deception. Just because someone prophesies what’s in your heart does not mean it’s confirmation of God’s will. The true prophets of God reveal the heart, mind and will of God — not yours.

Then there are Jezebel’s prophets. You know Jezebel. She murdered God’s prophets and put her own prophets in place. Jezebel herself is very prophetic and also a teacher. She trains her own prophets. They are very controlling. They seduce, commit fornication, release witchcraft and curses on God’s people and the nation.

King Ahab married Jezebel, the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshiped him. Ahab went into covenant with the foreign god of prophetic divination and forsook the King of glory. Both He and Jezebel hated the true voice of God in the land and set out to murder God’s prophets and instead raise up their own prophets.

The Balaam prophets, Baal’s prophets and the Jezebel prophets need to be put out of the way for God’s blessing to return to our nation.

Elijah, one of God’s true prophets, came to challenge those prophets and rebuild the altar of the Lord that was broken down. He demonstrated that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is indeed the Living God. After these prophets were moved out of the way, he prayed and prophesied and heard the sound of the abundance of rain. Then, being threatened by Jezebel he ran and hid himself in a cave. There God revealed Himself to Elijah through His still small voice. He spoke to him about 7000 other prophets: “Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him” (1 Kings 19:18 ).

God is calling for the gathering of those prophets who haven’t compromised with Jezebel or Ahab. Who serve the Living God and his eternal purpose. Who only speak when He commands. Who are planted in their local churches and submit to spiritual authority. Who have no common ground with the enemy. Who don’t merchandise the people of God. Who are enrolled in Holy Spirit’s school of brokenness and humility. Who are Holy prophets. Who are scripturally sound? Who are not controlling? Who love people and have not isolated themselves from the Body of Christ…

Only God knows who these seven thousand prophets are; our world needs a clear word from the Lord. Not unclear ambiguous mystical sayings that do nothing but make one appear more spiritual than others.

I don’t know if you are among the 7000 prophets but if your heart beats and yearns for the Living God and his Word, then perhaps you can be part of God’s movement among “His” prophets.
